GENEALOGICAL, BIOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL FACTS AND SKETCHES OF THE WRITERS FAMILY
      By F. M. Womack

Uncle William Womack (Buck) married a McBee, he moved to Missouri about 1846 or 1847 from Jackson County, Ala. Stopped over with father on his way remained 2 weeks - had a daughter, Cousin Betty who fell from the wagon as they came [across] the Cumberland Mountain. A wheel ran over her leg and broke it, therefore they rested at fathers two weeks on account of her misfortune. Uncle Buck had a large family of children - seemed to be nice family of children. I think the majority of the boys and girls played the fiddle they had two fiddles, some would play and some would dance they seemed to be an intelligent family of children. Uncle Buck was moving through in wagons drawn by oxen. He died in the State of Mo. Some of his family was living in Ozark Co. Mo. a few years ago.

William Womack received a land patent of approximately 79 acres in 1831 in Jackson County, AL.

1840 U.S. Census, Jackson County, AL. The U.S. Census for 1840 does not list each individual, only the head of each household. William is listed as William Warmack with 2 males under 5 (William, Levi), 1 male between age 5 and 10 (Abner), 1 male between age 10 and 15 (Robert), 1 male between age 15 and 20 (Asa), 1 male between age 40 and 50 (William), 2 females between age 5 and 10 (Elizabeth, Mary Ann), 1 female between 10 and 15 (Nancy), 1 female age 20 and 30 (Lucy), 1 female betweeb age 40 and 50 (Sarah). Also on this page is son-in-law John McDowell, married Martha, and Josiah T. Womack, possible nephew, son of William's proable brother Josiah.

I have not been able to locate William Womack in 1860 U.S. Census, I believe that he was living in Perry County, MO, but the census taker skipped him during the enumeration.

William Womack patented 156 acres in Perry County, MO in 1859.

The last will and testament of William "Buck" Womack is no longer available. Somebody as removed it from the Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri Courthouse. The information I have is from a copy of the Will that Marge Clifton has maintained.
