  • Notes
    • According to the 1900 Federal Census and family tradition, Julius and Elizabeth had six children, three girls and three boys. I have only been able to identify four of those children: three daughters -- Samantha Jemima, Louise Ellen, and Margaret A., -- and one son, Henry H. It is assumed that the other two sons died in infancy and no record has been found of their births or deaths.

Julius and Samantha's daughter, Margaret (married to Matthias Meredith), died between 1890 and 1895. Her husband, Matthias, remarried after Margaret's death to Martha Dunham on 24 Nov 1896. The two children of Margaret and Matthias, James T. and Stella A., were sent to live with their grandparents Julius and Samantha; they appear on the 1900 Federal Census in Julius Stone's household. It was apparently fairly common in those days for children of a deceased spouse to be sent to live with relatives when the surviving spouse remarried.

Julius's wife, Elizabeth, and five children preceded him in death. Only his daughter, Louise Ellen Keeth, survived the death of both her parents.
