"Wm. Womack - killed at Fishing Creek, 19 January 1862 ["Sketch" shows Billie Womack as wounded]."
      ****************************************
The above excerpts from the Water Valley Rifles website lists Privates James and William Womack as both being killed at the Battle of Fishing Creek [aka Battle of Mill Springs or Battle of Logan's Cross Roads]. Both of their surnames are spelled "Wamack" on this memorial.
The 1860 Federal Census of the Center Beat, Yalobusha County, Mississippi lists the A.M. and Sallie Wommack family and their seven children. William, age 18 and James, age 16, are two of them. The spelling of their surname is open to discussion, but most likely these two brothers are the ones listed on this memorial and buried in «u»Zollicoffer Park Cemetery «/u».
