John Crosswhite was born on 06 Dec 1806 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. He married Frances "Fanny" Stone on 22 Nov. 1832 in Boone County, Missouri. They had 11 children:
Elizabeth, Kitty Ann Almira, Maher-Shalel-Hash-Baz, Malina Melissa, Isaac Jefferson, Polly Ann, Sally Jane, Henry Harrison, James Edward, Lucy Jane, and Sarah France Crosswhite.

John died on 16 Mar 1854 and was buried in the family Crosthwaite/Crosswhite Cemetery in Boone County, Missouri. This land is now part of Finger Lakes State Park just north of Columbia, Boone County, Missouri.

He was the son of Thomas Isaac Crosthwait and Rachel Stone (which means he married his first cousin once removed when he married Fanny). Thomas Isaac is also buried at this cemetery but no stone can be found (yet!). Maher-Shalel-Hash-Baz is his son's name and he was very specific about naming him this. It comes from the bible.

Luckily, John's daughters Eizabeth and Sally Jane's headstones were also found in the nearby creek and rescued. Fanny Stone was born in 1815 in Virginia and died 07 Feb 1902 an was buried in Rocky Fork Cemetery, Hinton, Boone County, Missouri.
