      Francis Marion Litteral (child of Hairston and Catherine Ramey Litteral) born September 9, 1839 died January 21, 1919 in Oil Springs, Kentucky. He married Sarah Virginia "Virgie" Vencil born February 14, 1850 in Russell County, Virginia died January 5, 1929 in Oil Springs, Kentucky. They were married January 1, 1872 in Elliott County, Kentucky. The 1880 Federal Census shows them as having an adopted son John L. Flannery age 10 and an adopted daughter Sarah Flannery age 12 in their household.

      " (Francis M. Litteral) was born September 9, 1839, of parents, Huston and Catherine (Raney) Litteral, deceased. His wife's maiden name was Vergie Vencill. Comrade Litteral offered his services to his country's needs when 22 years old and was enrolled from Salyersville, Kentucky, September, 1863, as a private in Co. D. 45«sup»th«/sup» Ky, Mtd V.I., 1«sup»st«/sup» Brigade, 2«sup»nd«/sup» Div., 23«sup»rd«/sup» A.C.; and was soon promoted to Sergeant . He was ill with fever and was cared for about one month in hospital; he was furloughed for twenty days at Lexington and returned at end of time. He was taken prisoner but escaped through the influence of friends; he was detailed at Lexington to guard prisoners a short time. He was also detailed in Johnson County with part of his Co. to guard the sheriff, who was collecting taxes; he was again detailed with Dr. Roland to inspect houses of questionable character. He took part in the battles of Cynthiana, Mt. Sterling, Cumberland Gap and his honorable discharge was received at the close of the war. He had two brothers in action; Harry was Capt. of 40«sup»th«/sup» Ky. V. I. and Flemming. Comrade Litteral was elected J.P. of this county for eight years and is a popular and obliging official and is growing in public favor every day; he is at present postmaster of Oil Springs, Ky., where his wife had held the appointment for twelve years; he belongs to Auxier Post, his occupation is that of a farmer and his P.O. address is Oil Springs, Ky.
