      " (Wiley Litteral) was born in Johnson County, Kentucky, December 30, 1831, and was a son of Daniel and Sarah (Conley) Litteral, deceased. His wife, Rebecca Pace is a native of Harlan County, Kentucky, where she was born February 17, 1836, of parents, John and Sarah (Ely) Pace, deceased. They were married August 16, 1855, in Johnson County, Kentucky and the following children have been born to them: James M., Ulysses, Alafare, Rebecca, Luther M., Cora A., Caley, Luster, Willie, Sarah (dec.), John A., (dec.), and Cynthia (dec.). When Pres. Lincoln issued a call for troops to defend the Nation's cause, his patriotic love for freedom actuated him to enlist and he was enrolled from Catlettsburg, Kentucky, August, 1863, when 31 years of age, as a private in Co. C, 45«sup»th«/sup» KY Mtd. V.I. He was ill with pneumonia and received hospital treatment at Lexington for one month. In 1861 he volunteered at Grayson but was stricken with pneumonia and the surgeon gave him a pass to return home. He was detailed to convey horses to Louisa during the battle of Saltville and also did considerable scouting, skirmishing, guard and garrison duty, besides the pursuit of Hood. He was honorably discharged at Catlettsburg, Kentucky, January, 1865. He had five brothers in service, Milt, Roland, Huston, Gilson, and George. John, his wife's brother, was also in service. Comrade Litteral and wife united with the Christian church thirty years ago and have since been faithful members; he belongs to Auxier Post, No. 73; he is a farmer by occupation and his address is Oil Springs, Kentucky."
