      Confederate State Army (CSA) Veteran's Memorial Service was held for John Plesant Charles Littrell on March 31 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Lincoln County, where he is buried March 7, 1932 by the side of his two wives. There were no children by either marriages.

      "Uncle Chalie" as he was referred to by the family, was the oldest child of the late James Leroy and Martha Frances Taylor Littrell, born May 25, 1841 in Huntland. He died March 5, 1932 at the Old Soldier's Home (Hermitage) in Nashville.

      Those of the family attending the memorial included great-nephews Edward Littrell and Buford Colston, great-neice Ruth Story Sims. great-great-neice Benita Sims and great neice Gladys Colton Shannon.

      Conducting the service were Orie Sims and Mrs Hoyt Smith, president of the Joseph E Johnson Chapter No. 198, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Athen, Ala., Where Gladys Shannon is a member.

      "Uncle Charlie" served in Co. H-1st Regiment Tn Infantry in the battle of Seven Pines, Va. where he was wounded by a piece of Shell which rendered him unconscious for 20 hours, causing permanent deafness in his left ear.

      After this injury, and also suffering several weeks from camp fever making him unable to serve as a cook for his company, he was discharged "on account of only being 17 years old.

      In January, 1863, "Uncle Charlie" re-enlisted in Co. B 44-Tennessee Regiment and served until he was captured by Federals near Knoxville, where he was held prisoner 15 months before being discharged.
